Ghana Infrastructure Boom: $2.3B Roads & Bridges Programme Breaks Ground
The Ghana government has officially launched a landmark $2.3 billion infrastructure development programme targeting over 800 kilometres of roads and 42 new bridge connections across all 16 regions.
The Roads and Bridges Modernisation Programme (RBMP), unveiled this week, is the largest single infrastructure investment in the countrys history and is expected to directly create 18,000 construction jobs over the next four years.
Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony in Kumasi, the Minister of Roads and Highways said the programme would use a combination of locally sourced materials and imported prefabricated steel components to accelerate delivery timelines.
Regional Breakdown
The Northern regions are set to receive the lions share β 34% of total funding β addressing decades of underinvestment in road connectivity that has hampered agricultural supply chains.
Urban centres including Accra, Kumasi, and Takoradi will see major flyover and intersection upgrades, with Phase 1 construction starting immediately in the Greater Accra Region.
